Just an hour northeast of Johannesburg and half an hour from Pretoria lies the Kevin Richardson Foundation Reserve. Nestled between the Bobbejaansberge and straddling the Boekenhoutspruit, the reserve forms part of the Dinokeng Game Reserve, and is the home of the ‘Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary’.

The sanctuary is home to lions (as well as leopard and hyena) rescued from captive-breeding and cub-petting facilities. Enjoy a guided tour of the sanctuary while learning about the challenges facing lions today and the work we are doing here at the Kevin Richardson Foundation.

A guide will drive you between the sanctuary enclosures on a game viewer with no more than ten guests, giving you a chance to take photographs and ask questions.

This tour is suitable for people with children and those that prefer not to walk to far.

Inclusions: Cost includes Tour, light refreshments and a small gift

Exclusions: While there are no exclusions on who can book a tour. The guide will request that small children/ babies remain on the game viewer when going around the sanctuary

Bring: Camera, sunblock and hat

Fitness: No fitness requirement

What to Wear: Comfortable clothing and shoes. Although you will be driven around the sanctuary in a game viewer, you do get on and off the vehicle

Optional: A raincoat during the summer months and warm jacket for the winter months

Watch the sky turn to a romantic purple-blue whilst listening to the African Fish Eagles cry at sunset, on our relaxing afternoon boat cruises on the exclusive 30-hectare dam. The wetlands surrounding the dam offer superb bird watching. With over 300 bird species being recorded throughout the Reserve, you are guaranteed to find your lifer!
